DAY OF CARING
Volunteer to Live United

United Way’s Annual Day of Caring is about caring volunteers uniting to make an impact at our local human service agencies, schools and other nonprofits.

This year’s Day of Caring will be held Thursday, September 9, 2010.

VOLUNTEER NOW!

Last year, on September 10 of 2009, almost 400 volunteers worked on 25 different projects ranging from improvement projects at local nonprofits to installing playgrounds at low-income day care centers or rebuilding public park spaces.

The 2009 DOC project of the day was installing a vegetable and herb garden for the Salvation Army's culinary job education program.  About 20 ACE volunteers and other volunteers from the community used earth movers to build a series of raised garden beds before sectioning them off with cross ties and planting all the different varieties of vegetables and herbs needed for the cooking school. Click here to see pictures showing how much fun everyone was having making a hands-on impact!

ACE Hardware, the Day of Caring sponsor, donates a portion of their Labor Day weekend sales to United Way. The 2010 ACE Labor Day Sale will be held from Friday, September 3 through Monday, September 6 (Labor Day). A percentage of every dollar purchased by Helpful Hardware Club Card members is donated. This money helps participating Day of Caring organizations purchase needed supplies for their volunteer projects.
