Join the Day of Caring
United Way’s Annual Day of Caring is about caring volunteers uniting to make an impact at our local human service agencies, schools and other nonprofits.
This year’s annual Day of Caring will be held Thursday, September 13, 2012.
Last year, on September 8, 2011, approximately 300 community volunteers across our region worked diligently to complete a total of 28 projects at 24 nonprofit agencies in roughly six to eight hours.
ACE Hardware's 2011 DOC project of the day was cleaning up damage from the April 27 tornadoes at the Boys and Girls Club Camp out in Appison. Click here to see pictures showing how much fun all of our volunteers had making a hands-on impact! Who knew they made chain saws over 6 feet long?
ACE Hardware, the Day of Caring sponsor, donates a portion of their Labor Day weekend sales to United Way. The 2012 ACE Labor Day Sale will be held from Friday, August 31 through Monday, September 3 (Labor Day). A percentage of every dollar purchased by Helpful Hardware Club Card members is donated. This money helps participating Day of Caring organizations purchase needed supplies for their volunteer projects.
Twenty-two area companies – UPS, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, ACE Hardware, CIGNA Ins., Warren & Griffin Law Firm, AT&T Retirees, McKee Foods, Roper, Publix, Memorial Hospital, SunTrust Bank, Unum’s Finance Department, First Tennessee Bank, Regions Bank, Partnership FCA, Chattanooga Gas Company, AkzoNobel, TJ MAXX, the Erlanger Foundation, MESA & Associates, PlayCore, and Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain – gave their employees the day off from work on September 8, 2011, so their teams could participate in collective community action that builds lasting change in the Tennessee Valley.
