Tool Barn Site of Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Leadership Chattanooga will celebrate the completion of its community clean-up tool collection project, The Tool Barn, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 2 at 2 p.m. The event will take place at 700 E. 11th St. The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the ceremony.
The Tool Barn is part of United Way of Greater Chattanooga’s Gifts in Kind Program. It is jointly operated by United Way and the Salvation Army, and its mission is to collect and organize donated tools and maintenance equipment to lend for community clean-up and repair projects. The tools can be lent to eligible nonprofits and community groups who register with Gifts in Kind.
The Tool Barn concept was developed by ACE Hardware of East Tennessee and Northwest Georgia, which now sponsors it. The project was then adopted by The 2011 Tool Barn Leadership Chattanooga Group, who cleaned, organized, marketed and raised tools for this new service. They have worked on various aspects of the project for almost a year.
Attendees are invited to view the collection of tools the group has compiled and donated to United Way during the past year.
